Summer Holidays in Schenna near Merano – Prünsterhof Holiday Apartments
Out into nature: Waalwege, hiking & cycling
Here, stepping outside and breathing in the clear mountain air feels effortless. The Schenna Waalweg irrigation channel trail begins right at the Prünsterhof, meandering gently through orchards and woodland around the village – ideal for relaxed walks or easy family hikes.
Just 150 metres away lies the valley station of the Taser cable car. At the top, you decide the pace: a gentle stroll or a more ambitious mountain hike. A stop at a rustic hut and sweeping summit views – perhaps from the Lawandspitz peak – are always part of the reward. We also recommend the Hirzer hiking area, reached via the Verdins cable car, just 3 km from the farm.
Merano 2000 is also within easy reach and offers something for every outdoor enthusiast: family-friendly trails, panoramic summit routes and even via ferrata experiences. For those who enjoy exploring with guidance, the Schenna Tourist Association organizes walks ranging from relaxed family outings to challenging peak ascents.
And of course – take to two wheels. From mountain bike routes leading towards the Leitenalm mountain pasture, the Hirzer hiking area or Merano 2000 to leisurely cycling tours through the Merano basin, the options are endless. In spring, you ride past orchards in bloom; in autumn, the trees glow with ripening fruit.
Bacon dumpling soup, Kaiserschmarrn & South Tyrolean Gröstl
No walk in Schenna feels complete without a pause at a traditional mountain hut – and that pause is part of the pleasure. Alpine inns serve hearty South Tyrolean classics and honest mountain fare. In the sunshine, surrounded by fresh Alpine air and sweeping views, bacon dumpling soup, Kaiserschmarrn and South Tyrolean Gröstl – a rustic pan-fried dish of potatoes, bacon and onions – taste even better.
For families, these stops often become the highlight of the day. Many welcoming, child-friendly huts are close by, offering simple yet memorable culinary moments for guests of all ages.

Sometimes, all it takes is a quiet moment and a wide horizon. On sunny days, numerous mountain ranges stretch out before you, and your eyes can wander across valleys, orchards and peaks.
Sit down. Take a deep breath. Consciously take in the landscape. Put your phone aside and reconnect with yourself.
A moment to arrive, breathe deeply and simply enjoy.
